Alumnus Albert Simic has made the Albert Simic Scholarship for Actors ($2000) available to students in CUNY BA for the spring 2009 semester. Presently, however, we have not been able to identify students who are pursuing concentrations specifically in “Acting.” Accordingly, we are reaching out to the group of current students who are studying film, drama, directing, performing arts, arts administration, and theatre to solicit applications for this one-time award.
The original Albert Simic Scholarship announcement stated that the ideal candidate would be an experienced actor seeking to advance his/her acting career; students new to acting would also be considered. We are expanding the criteria now just a bit to include students whose work involves the advancement of acting and/or actors. Applicants should submit a 1-2 page statement describing their area of concentration, their acting experience and/or how their area of concentration is in the service of the field of acting, and their plans for post-graduation, along with a resume (indicating membership in one of the professional acting unions –SAG/AFTRA/AEA/ACTRA, etc., if applicable). The new deadline for applying is 5pm, Monday, February 16, 2009.
Please send your materials to Lidija Markes, CUNY BA Scholarships Coordinator at 365 Fifth Ave, Suite 6412, NY, NY 10016 by the deadline. Be sure that your application includes your full name, address, email and phone number. If you have questions, Ms. Markes can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 212-817-8223.
