The traditional format is varied by team-teaching, guest speakers, student debates and class discussions, as well as by the use of films, visual art, music, legal and psychological case studies and other media. To allow time for field trips to agencies, courts, museums and other places pertinent to the theme, classes are scheduled once a week for double sessions.

John Jay College Interdisciplinary Studies courses are open to all CUNY Baccalaureate students. Credits earned in the IDS program may be used to fulfill CUNY BA/BS’s core distribution requirements; the upper level courses (numbering 533 and 534) may be applied, with faculty mentors’ approval, toward Areas of Concentration.  The listing of IDS courses offered for Spring 2010 follows. CUNY BA/BS students at John Jay can register for these courses directly; students at the other colleges must utilize the epermit system.
