Corporate Communications Coordinator

 

The Coordinator is a key member of the award-winning Scholastic Corporate Communications team.  He/she handles all incoming calls, travel and expenses and the daily calendar for the Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications. The Coordinator also provides administrative support for the Media Relations, Social Media, Internal/Intranet, Creative Design and Library teams in Corporate Communications. In addition he/she is also responsible for tracking and handling departmental invoices, coordinating philanthropic sponsorships, monitoring and distributing weekly media clips, ordering supplies and general support for the team.

 

General administrative support includes but is not limited to:

  • Managing the calendar, contacts, incoming calls, travel and expenses for the SVP
  • Coding and submitting invoices and tracking them with Accounts Payable
  • Monitoring budget reports for accuracy and reviewing monthly budget reports with the SVP
  • Maintaining the division’s org chart and contact list
  • Ordering and maintaining departmental supplies
  • Arranging deliveries, mailings and messenger services as needed
  • Serving as liaison with IT for technical support in the department
  • Organizing and filing office documents; shredding confidential documents

 

Media Relations support includes but is not limited to:

  • Handling collection and distribution of weekly media clips and quarterly clips for the Board of Directors
  • Working closely with SVP to provide Crisis Communications support and quarterly earnings assistance
  • Assisting SVP on quarterly earnings releases
  • Handling and helping coordinate non-profit sponsorships, booking guests for event table, placing ads in gala journals and other philanthropic efforts
  • Monitoring News@scholastic.com mailbox
  • Brainstorming ideas in staff meetings

Qualifications

 

Required Skills:

Strong interpersonal skills and professional presentation

Ability to work independently and as a member of the team

Ability to juggle multiple assignments and prioritize projects

Good judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality involving Company information

Ability to interact effectively with senior management and with the media

Willingness to work long hours when needed

 

Specific Experience

BA or higher

Administrative Assistant experience and an interest in Communications/Public Relations a plus
