From Internships to Career: CUNY BA Inaugurates Its Leadership Academy

The CUNY BA Leadership Academy provides students with the opportunity to meet and learn from individuals who have been successful in their chosen fields. Their stories of hard work, perseverance, failures and triumphs are meant to inspire you as you plan to start or expand your own careers. The Academy also strives to connect professionals with students seeking career mentors and advice.

For the launching of the Leadership Academy, CUNY BA has invited Elias Alcantara who currently serves as Staff Assistant in the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. Since his graduation from Lehman College, he has built an impressive career in the public sector. After his talk, a panel of students who have completed prestigious internships will discuss their strategies in obtaining valuable work training and share their contacts. Maisha Lopa will talk about her vast experiences in international, governmental, and city institutions. She will be joined by Michelle Balon, communication intern at Education for Employment, which focuses on youth employment in the Arab world. Odette Hauke will discuss her internship at the NYU Langone Medical Center and how it led to her current full-time position as a Research Assistant at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The event will take place on April 4 (Friday), from 6:30-8:00pm, at the CUNY Graduate Center, room 9206. All CUNY BA students and friends of the program are welcomed to attend.
