Since 2009, the University has experienced a decrease in operating aid in the amount of $205 million.  This year CUNY faces an additional $83.2 million cut in operating aid.  Everyone is being asked to help in CUNY’s efforts to impact the New York State 2011-12 budget process. Logging on to www.supportcuny.org is an easy way to prepare and send messages to our representatives. This is critical time for CUNY and for the state. Please add your voice in support of our great university.

“The University recognizes that State officials are diligently endeavoring to meet the fiscal challenges associated with the current budget deficit.   At the same time, record-breaking numbers of students are seeking higher education opportunity at CUNY so that they may compete effectively for careers in an unforgiving economy and increasingly international marketplace.  This is the beginning of an important process of discussion with the Executive and the New York State Legislature, including hearings and dialogue in the weeks ahead prior to the scheduled April 1 adoption of the State Budget.  We remain committed to working with all parties in order to both mitigate the negative impact of proposed reductions and to maintain high quality and accessibility to educational opportunities that CUNY represents to hundreds of thousands of New York families.”
