Northside Charter High School is seeking a Visual Arts Teacher for the 2016 -2017 School Year.


Professional Responsibilities:

Maintain a strong visual arts program that incorporates Studio Art, Portfolio Development, and Advanced Art classes for student’s ages 912. The Visual Arts teacher creates visual arts displays, is required to have a strong familiarity with the latest technology, and plans field trips to familiarize students with the rich opportunities and venues for the arts in NYC.

Contribute arts related skills in the overall school domain such as: assisting with yearbook design, developing artwork and/or brochures for clubs and school events, and working with administration and the visual and performing arts department to establish a well-rounded curriculum that is aligned with the school’s mission.

Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.

Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.

Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.

Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. behavioral, motor development and communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.

Enter, update, and monitor student grades and attendance on PowerSchool.

Take an active part in professional learning community meetings and department committee meetings.

Learn to incorporate technology into the instructional domain by taking part in digital knowledge sharing and communication. Be open about using data as a tool for enhancing success.

Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.

Monitors students’ behavior/activities in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

Participates in and/or coordinates a variety of meetings (e.g. PLC, IEP, department, school) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.


(Minimum) Undergraduate degree in Education, Masters a Plus

Good communication skills

NYSED Licensure

State of New York residence • NYSED Fingerprint Clearance

Excellent writing and grammar skills

Proficiency in Mac OS X, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere), Final Cut Pro X, DSLR Cameras, media management (pictures, audio, and video from school events), Keynote/PowerPoint, and Pages/MS Word
