Salma Hayek: Six Degrees (even fewer!) from CUNY BA
Two CUNY Baccalaureate students, Natasha Berry (“Film Production;” “Audio Production.” Home College: Queens) and Takako Yamauchi (“Cinema Studies.” Home College: Hunter) had a recent gig as production assistants on a PSA about domestic violence starring Salma Hayek.
The connection was made last month when CUNY BA hosted an evening with Max Rosen, President and Founder of Indigo Productions, a leading video production company based in New York City, who spoke about Viral Videos: Indigo’s successes, and how YouTube is changing the world, as well as career advice about breaking into video production.
He said that he needed some help with a PSA the following day and Natasha and Takako were there as eager volunteers.
Max Rosen is an award-winning producer of over 1,000 video and short film projects. In 1991, after working for various production companies and a stint at MTV, Rosen wentout on his own and opened Indigo Productions.
Indigo is a one-stop creative resource for ad agencies, Fortune 500s, non-profits, Entertainment companies, and a wide variety of other organizations large and small. Indigo’s clients include The Smithsonian Institution, MTV, Harvard, IBM, Canon, Everlast, L’Oreal, Timex, Estee Lauder, the ASPCA, Ralph Lauren, and Scholastic.
Indigo teaches a four-Sunday Viral Video Workshop about creating videos specifically for the Internet, which Natasha and Takako are presently taking!
Last semester students helped Indigo create a video that got over 7.5 million views on YouTube alone, and over 25 million views worldwide. It received extensive news coverage and was featured on the first page of CollegeHumor, Break, Mashable, Digg and CNN.
