CUNY BA-Graduate Center Alumna Dr. Abby Stein, an adjunct professor at John Jay College, has established a $500 award. The award is given to a John Jay student, typically concentrating in an area involving the social sciences.
Barbara Kneller Memorial Award
One award of $250 made to a student who previously attended Kingsborough Community College, earning at least 24 credits there, and is completing the BA or BS in CUNY Baccalaureate with outstanding success.
Thanks to the ongoing generosity of the CUNY BA Alumni, two-three $500 awards are awarded to academically outstanding graduates who are going on to graduate programs (Masters or Ph.D.) at any accredited institutions in Fall.
CUNY BA alumnus Dan Daley, journalist and author, has designated a $500 award to be given to an upcoming graduate in journalism/communication.
CUNY BA alumna Dr. Stacey Simons has designated a $250 award to be given to a graduating student who did exceptionally well in an Area of Concentration in the health sciences, and who will be continuing on to work and/or go to graduate school in health sciences.
One award of $200 to a student who did exceptionally well in his/her Area of Concentration related to Literature/Literary Studies.
CUNY BA alumna Maria Lopez-Bernstein has made this $250 award possible in memory of her father. It is for an immigrant student who will be the first in his/her family to graduate from college.
A $150 award for a graduating student who has achieved outstanding success in an Area of Concentration related to Women’s Studies, Literature or Creative Writing.
A $500 award for a graduating student who has achieved outstanding success in an Area of Concentration related to Religion. This award was established by CUNY BA alumni to recognize Prof. Sproul’s mentoring of over 100 CUNY BA students since 1971.
Information on how to apply for these scholarships is included in the February mailing to all students eligible to march in the ceremony. It will also be available for download on the site. Students who sign up to attend commencement will be eligible to apply; attendance at the commencement ceremony to receive the award is required. Award recipients will be announced in late May. All awards listed here are available subject to continued funding on the part of the donors.
